K-12 Reporting Policy Framework Launched in 2023-24
The Ministry of Education and Child Care has updated its reporting policy for students in all grades. Schools across the province must implement the changes in the 2023-24 school year. This will impact aspects of how all schools report learning to students and families. What’s new and what remains the same is outlined below.
What is staying the same?
- Letter grades and percentages for Grades 10 to 12
- Five communications of student learning to families: three report cards and two communications of flexible format​ – such as, for example, parent-teacher conferences
- Written descriptive feedback to accompany reports for all grades
What is changing?
- For students in Kindergarten to Grade 9, all school districts in BC will use the Provincial Proficiency Scale and not letter grades or percentages
- A graduation status update for Grades 10-12​ on students’ end of year report card
